Finding cheap insurance – Students

Posted in Insurance

When you’re a student you need to save as much money as possible, as that student loan isn’t designed for a jet set lifestyle. If you’re lucky enough to be a student with a car, then there are two downsides – firstly, it can be immensely difficult to find a quote for cheap car insurance and secondly, all your mates will want to use you as a taxi to get them to lectures on time!

Young drivers have their work cut out when it comes to finding a cheap quote for their car insurance, because younger people are statistically more likely to have an accident, so the premiums are much higher, especially if this is your first car.

So, just how do you go about finding a cheap student car insurance quote? Are there any ways to bring your premium down? Here are a few tips to help you get a cheap car insurance quote.

First of all, get the cheapest quote you can using comparison sites – this will give you an idea of how much your premium is likely to be. Many insurance companies who specialise in student car insurance will be included on these comparison sites, look out for companies like Endsleigh Insurance, who have policies that are designed especially for students. These premiums mean that you only have to pay for what you need, not all those fancy extras that you’ll never use. You can also try going direct to these companies to see if they will give you a cheaper quote by going directly through them.
There are also some ways that you can help to bring your premium down. If you’ve just passed your test, opt to go for the extra courses, like Pass Plus, which will prove to insurers that you’re a responsible driver and you’ve had experience driving on motorways. Also, opt for a car that’s cheap and unmodified. There are several economical cars in the lowest insurance band, so it’s worth finding out what these are before your buy.

Worried about high insurance prices??

Posted in Insurance

Is a sports car within your budget? Have you taken road tax, MOT and fuel costs into consideration? What about insurance? Just because you own a top of the line car, this shouldn’t mean you have to pay top prices on your insurance. Sports car insurance is always going to be one of the most expensive policies to buy, but shop around, use comparison websites and make sure you’re getting the best deal for a price that suits you. Some insurance companies won’t handle performance cars so make sure you do your research and the company you have chosen are willing to insure your vehicle.

In the UK, Endsleigh Car Insurance is a good independent comparison website and they will help you find the best quote. Being insurance professionals, they will be able to give advice for first timers and will even have something to offer the more experienced driver. Have a look at the website or give them a call to enquire and hopefully save!

Endsleigh has some good background and frequently asked questions as well as some helpful tips on how to reduce your premiums. Taking into consideration things like annual mileage, type of cover and any no claims bonuses, they offer a variety to suit everyone. They also have offers for huge discounts and agreed valuations.

Some car clubs will offer schemes that are only available to club members, so it’s worth having a look at these to see if they can offer something even better than specialist sports car policies. There are a lot to choose from, so do your homework and make sure any club you may be thinking of joining is right for you.

Our Cars Drive Us Up The Wall – But We Love Them!

Posted in Insurance

A recent survey by the Telegraph has revealed that, despite all our moans about the cost of car insurance, road tax, fuel and poor road conditions; we British still wouldn’t be without our cars. And it’s not just for the convenience of getting from A to B; many of us view our cars as extensions of our homes, and prefer solitary driving to having passengers. Probably because, like at home, we can break wind, sing badly, talk to ourselves and generally behave as we like within our own little space.

But considering the statistics revealed in the survey, it’s surprising that we do feel so at home in our cars. Almost half (41%) of all drivers surveyed said that excessive restrictions have soured their enjoyment of being on the road – the main culprit being speed humps. Many drivers cited other road users as the fly in the ointment; tailgaters got 70% of the hate vote, while lost drivers got 40% of the blame.

Even though we can’t change it, the weather came in for its fair share of blame too; 39% of drivers hate driving in the snow, and the same amount dislike driving in rain. Often exacerbated by the weather, road conditions are also a very real problem with drivers; 80% of us state that our driving pleasure is tainted by the poor conditions, with potholes and poorly surfaced roads being the main offenders. 66% blame road works though, so it’s a case of “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”…Although it’s not so much the road works that grinds our gears; more the lower speed limits and resulting tailbacks when it’s quite clear that no work is actually going on.

But the underlying concern is unsurprisingly, the cost of actually being a car-owner. In the past year, fuel has risen to astronomical levels, and most drivers have also seen insurance premiums rise by up to 40%. Add these to the ever-increasing cost of road tax, MOTs and congestion charges, and it’s a wonder any of us can afford to run a car at all.

Despite all this, we wouldn’t be without our cars. More than just a means of transport; for many of us, the car we drive is as much an announcement to the world of our personality, status, or individuality, as the clothes we wear.

Volkswagen Golf 1.2 TSI 85PS

VWGolf

Well yesterday I was able to test a VW golf although was not provided by VW my friend just bought one last week and was willing to allow me to try it out for the day to see what its like he bought the basic model which prices start from around £14,000.

It has all the basic need anyone would need from climate control, Multi-Airbags, CD Player plus much more, With insurance groups from 11E meaning for the older or younger driver it would be typically cheap to insure depending on your previous driving history and if you have had any claims in the past, Most people who buy a golf are aged around 25+ and have driven for a few years so insuring the car is cheap as chips.

With a five speed gearbox and a TAX band of E which is around £190 for 12 months tax which is kinda average for hatchback.

When driving the car myself I was not able to work out exact 0-60 time but it was around 13 seconds which isn’t fast but it would all depend on the engine size you pick when buying, My preferred model is 2.0TDI model which should have enough power to have a lot of fun, But as my friend personally wants a car to run about which is cheap to run on fuel/insurance this is the perfect car from the new sleek design inside and out and emissions class of EURO 5 which anyone would agree is pretty low compared to other hatchback.

The smoothness of the driving is something you would have to personally drive to even contemplate how good and smooth it is although it obviously won’t be as good as a BMW in being smooth but for the type of car it is the perfect car to buy for running about everyday to and from work and taking the kids out for the day with a lot of space and pretty kid proof in a sense you can let your kids loose and its pretty hard for them to get food and stuff into places that you are unable to clean.
It is advised that you don’t just buy the biggest engine as with bigger engine you then suffer higher insurance group which can go up to around 17E which in anyone’s standards is pretty high insurance group for a hatchback you could just go and buy a performance car with around the same insurance group.

But as VW are adiment that the main aim for this car is to provide a safety aspect to driving as well as providing and appealing design for women or men to drive so there is no specific look on this car unlike cars such as Fiat 500 which is specifically made towards women drivers and not many men own one..

Why not take a browse at your local VW dealer and ask for a test drive you will see how great the car is before you go to buy any other car at least look at your options

It may be cheaper to buy one around a year older model which if serviced at a dealer should still have a valid warranty in-case anything should go wrong in the unforeseen future, While saving yourself around £2000.

The depreciation on VW cars is pretty low compared to other makes/models due to the great build quality of the German’s and the technology that is incorporated into the cars. although as any car when brand new soon as you drive it off the forecourt of a main dealer it instantly looses around £500 due to then being classed as second hand car, Don’t let this put you off buying second hand if maintained well could save you more cash which is vital in the economic climate today.
